BACK PORCH SONGWRITER SERIES: THE SONGS OF TRACY CHAPMAN
Signature Sounds Presents the Back Porch Songwriter Night: The Songs of Tracy Chapman on October 23rd at The Iron Horse in Northampton, MA.
Featuring Kimaya Diggs, Kaliis Smith, Kris Delmhorst, Pamela Means and Evelyn Harris - with house band the Deep River Ramblers.
Tracy Chapman is a Grammy-winning singer-songwriter known for her powerful folk-rock music and activism. Chapman's self-titled debut album, released in 1988, achieved massive success, selling over a million copies and becoming an unprecedented folk-style album in a pop-dominated era. In 2023, Chapman made history when country star Luke Combs' cover of her song "Fast Car" topped the country charts. She became the first Black woman to earn a No. 1 country song as a solo songwriter and the first Black songwriter to win the Country Music Association's Song of the Year award for the track.
The Back Porch Songwriter Series started in 2017 as part of the Back Porch Festival in Northampton. To date this series has paid tribute to songwriting legends Townes Van Zandt, Dolly Parton, Doc Watson, John Prine, Neil Young, Lucinda Williams, Gram Parsons and EmmyLou Harris, The Basement Tapes: Bob Dylan & The Band, and more.
