Tarbox Ramblers
Tarbox Ramblers
Taking listeners to a place where Appalachian music and backwoods blues meet in powerful, unexpected combinations, The Tarbox Ramblers have drawn raves from Rolling Stone, All Things Considered and more. The Washington Post calls The Tarbox Ramblers “a force of nature”; The New Yorker says “Between the fiddle, string bass, drums and slide guitar, you won't know what hit you.”

The band is led by smoky-voiced singer Michael Tarbox, whose arrangements of rural southern music, in a rock band setting, are what first put The Ramblers on the map. Over time Tarbox has also proven himself a skillful writer. His songs reflect some of the spiritual yearning, and the high lonesome sound, you hear in old blues and gospel records. Like old folk tales, they seem rooted in ancient shared experience. And, like the songs of Hank Williams or Billie Holiday, they have a lived-in quality that’s characteristic of the best American roots music. Most importantly, they convey a deeply personal emotional landscape in a distinctive voice. Tarbox's guitar playing, sharp as Texas barbed-wire, brings it all together.

The Tarbox Ramblers have released two albums on the Rounder label, toured throughout North America and Europe, and shared the stage with Robert Plant, Alison Krauss, Buddy Miller, Dave Alvin and more. The band's songs can be heard in the TV shows Sons of Anarchy and Supernatural.
