What is it?
The mission of the Academy of Music is to enrich greater Northampton’s quality of life by offering first-class performing arts and film presentations in a historic theatre of national significance, and encouraging the use of the venue for social, educational and professional events; the Academy of Music seeks a broad and diverse audience through its programming and outreach efforts.
The Academy of Music building is owned by the City of Northampton, which received the deed in 1892 from former owner and builder Edward H.R. Lyman. The Academy of Music, Inc., is the operating entity for the building, and it is an independent, private, not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) charitable organization governed by a Board of Trustees. The Northampton Mayor and Smith College President serve on the board, as was Lyman’s wish. The other board members are volunteers who have an interest in the performing arts, in the continued vitality of the City of Northampton, or who have special expertise related to the Academy’s operations.

Will there be any food or drink?
The Academy has a fully-stocked concession stand with snacks and drinks available for purchase.
What time are doors for the shows?
Doors open a half-hour before showtime. If it’s a 7pm show, doors are at 6:30. 8pm show, doors at 7:30.
How does the ticketing work for shows?
The Academy’s current box office hours are Tuesday-Friday, 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM and one hour before each performance. You can call the box office at 413-584-9032 ext 105 or stop by the box office during regular hours. Service fees are applied per ticket to ALL transactions.
Tickets are available for most shows one hour prior to the performance at-the-door, during the box office hours, and ON-LINE from their website. They offer mail service upon request. Service fees apply.
All sales are final. No refunds or exchanges.

The taking of pictures or the use of recording devices is prohibited.
As a courtesy to our patrons and artists, latecomers will be admitted at the
discretion of management.

Directions to the Academy
Located off Route 91 in Northampton, your fastest way to parking and to the Academy is to take exit 18. Once off the exit turn right onto Conz St. This road will take you up to the backside of the parking garage if you turn right on Hampton Ave. It can also take you straight into the heart of Northampton for on-street parking.
There is also a parking lot behind the Peter Pan Bus Station available for public parking. It’s metered, so make sure you pay before you leave! This parking lot has a staircase up the far-end leading directly behind the Academy.
