The Parlor Room
FAQ:
Q. What is it?
A. It's Northampton's new artist-and-audience-friendly listening room/performance space. It's also closely connected and run by the folks at Signature Sounds Recordings, one of the world's premiere record labels for folk/roots/americana/indie/rock, home to such artists as Chris Smither, Lake Street Dive, Caroline Herring, Winterpills, Josh Ritter, Amy Rigby, Erin Mckeown, Kris Delmhorst and many, many more...
Q. Where is it?
A: The Parlor Room is right in downtown Northampton at 32 Masonic Street, next door to the Woodstar Cafe. You can't miss it; it looks like an old brick one-room schoolhouse, but, like a clown car, holds a lot more than it seems like it should. The record label offices are in the back, but the shows are out front (kind of like a reverse mullet! All business in the back, party out in the front).
Q. Is it handicapped accessible?
A. While we don't have a ramp, we have a rear entrance and also a wide front door, and we can accommodate anyone in a wheelchair, with a little creativity.
Q. Will there be any food or drink?
A: BYOB, baby (wine & beer only)! Plus, light refreshments at Gigi's Café in the back (Gigi is our awesome intern who also makes the best cookies and Boter Koek -butter cookies). State St. liquors is right around the corner, Woodstar is next door for even more treats.
Q. Parking?
A: Street parking, in town.
Q. Is it all ages and general admission?
A: Yes, and yes. Seating is first-come, first-serve.
Q. What time are doors for the shows?
A: Doors open a half-hour before showtime. If its a 7pm show, doors are at 6:30. 9pm show, doors at 8:45; 8pm show, doors at 7:30.
Q. How does the ticketing work for shows?
A. You can buy them online on this site, OR you can visit the venue and offices at 32 Masonic St, Northampton, MA and buy them there, weekdays from 10-5. All tickets are usually WILL CALL, which means there are no physical tickets--your name(s) simply go on a list that is checked off at the door as folks come in. (Note: If you order online there is an option to print-your-own tickets).
If none of these ticketing scenarios are options for you, contact help@signaturesounds.com and we can figure something else out.)
Q: Do you only do music there?
A. Actually, we're open to all kinds of events and ideas, from theatrical events to pop-up stores. Contact us below!
Q. Is there a recording studio there? Someone said there was.
A. Nope. Maybe in the far future? The Signature Sounds label, however, is associated with a studio (which is it's own thing), and it's down in Pomfret, Connecticut. See more about it here.
Q. I wanna play there/go there/have questions/am confused. How do I contact you?
A: Contact us below!
Q: Where do I stay?
A. Quality Inn & Suites ( WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE )
